New Delhi
The second wave of the corona pandemic has not stopped. In view of this, the proposed by-election for a Rajya Sabha seat in Kerala has been postponed. The Election Commission took this decision on Friday.

According to the commission, Kerala Congress (M) leader Josh K. Mani resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership on 11 January last. Because of this, by-elections have to be held. His term was till July 2024.

The Election Commission said, "Under the provisions of Section 151A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, it has to be filled through a by-election within six months of the vacancy of the seat."

The commission had not announced any date for this proposed by-election. He said that the matter was reviewed on Friday. It was decided that due to the second wave of Corona virus, it would not be appropriate to take action until the by-election situation improves.

The Commission said that after taking information from the concerned state and taking stock of the epidemic situation, it will take a decision on the matter at an appropriate time.
