Officers in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) have turned against the officer. Protests have also started regarding this. Municipal Corporation Mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo is battling with his Joint Commissioner (Planning) Ghulam Hasan Mir. Mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo sat on a dharna against his own officer in his own leadership corporation inside the SMC campus on Thursday. Meyer and his supporters want Mir removed from the SMC. The mayor has demanded the removal of the joint commissioner.

In fact, SMC Commissioner Athar Amin Khan had last week set up a task force of seven SMC officials headed by Mir for illegal construction in Srinagar city and converting residential buildings into commercial ones. Khan also ordered the demolition of these structures and the recovery of the lost money from such constructions from the SMC convict officials.

Protests started due to demolition of illegal structures
Mir said that he allegedly demolished several illegal structures coming during the lockout with the active connivance of some city officials and councilors. The campaign, which started from May 21, will run till June 6. Continuing the picket against Mir, the councilors who supported the mayor staged a sit-in and shouted slogans against the bureaucracy.
