Highlights:
- Apollo Hospital has 3235 health workers vaccinated
- Only 85 infections occurred despite living with corona patients continuously
- Out of these 85, only 2 were required to admit, no serious happened
- Genome sequencing of 69 samples was also done, mutated virus was found in 47.83%
- It is clear that the vaccine has also been effective against the dangerous strains of the virus.
The vaccine is the most effective weapon against the corona. Now this is also being revealed from the study coming from time to time. A new study has shown that the vaccine is also effective against mutated viruses. This not only reduces the chances of getting infected, but also prevents someone from getting sick if they get infected.
In this study of Apollo Hospital, it was found that out of the healthcare workers who were vaccinated, only 2.62% got infection and only 2.89% of the infected needed hospital admission. The special thing is that a patient infected after taking the vaccine neither needed an ICU nor lost anyone. Therefore vaccination is the most effective treatment against this infection.
Study after questions raised on the vaccine
Dr. Raju Vaish, Senior Consultant, who led this study at Apollo Hospital, said that 3235 healthcare workers have been vaccinated so far in Apollo Hospital Delhi. In view of the many questions arising on the vaccine, we decided to do this study. Of the hospital's 3235 vaccinated healthcare workers, 85 were infected. This means that 2.62% of the total healthcare workers for the vaccine were infected. Not only this, out of the 85 infected, only 2 patients were admitted for treatment, that is, only 2.89% were admitted. The good thing is that neither of these required ICU nor did anyone die.
Genome sequencing with NCDC
Dr. Raju said that out of total 85 infected, 65 had both doses of vaccine, while 20 had one dose. In order to find out the cause of the people who got the infection, we decided to do genome sequencing in collaboration with NCDC. However, 16 of the 85 people infected had the infection checked out. Therefore, the remaining 69 samples were tested in genome sequencing at NCDC. Apollo's Group Medical Director, Dr. Anupam Sibal, said that the mutated virus was found in genome sequencing. B.1.617.2 strains were found to cause infection in 47.83% and in addition infections of B.1 and B.1.1.7 strains were also found.
Results of this study are very important
Dr. Sibal said that this result is very important, because more than half of the people got infection due to variants of Concern, even after that they survived with serious illness. If they had not been vaccinated, they could have serious symptoms of the disease. Variant of Concern is a mutated form of the virus, which spreads more quickly and can cause serious illness. That is why the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health organizations have notified for its monitoring.
Dr. Raju Vaishya said that we found that a very small number of healthcare workers were affected by infection with Kovid after vaccination, whereas they are most at risk daily. But in most of these cases, milder symptoms were found despite the variants of concurrence, because after vaccination it takes a little time for a person to develop immunity (fighting against diseases), so it is necessary to at least after the second dose of the vaccine Take special care for two weeks, and strictly follow the safety protocols such as social distance, face masks and hand sanitization rules.
