The Patna High Court on Friday heard a petition seeking reservation for blind and differently abled people to participate in the Bihar teacher recruitment process. Meanwhile, the court gave time to the state government to clarify the reservation pattern of candidates participating in the recruitment process for 1.25 lakh vacant posts of primary and secondary level teachers. Now the next hearing on the matter will be held on Monday.
Learn about the case in detail
A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar rescheduled the matter for hearing on Monday after Advocate General Lalit Kishor sought time to come up with an explanation. In fact, in 2019, the Bihar government had published an advertisement for the recruitment of 1.25 lakh primary and secondary teachers in the government schools of the state. However, the National Federation of the Blind moved the High Court in February last year challenging the recruitment process on the issue of reservation for persons with disabilities.

The federation had requested the court to direct the concerned authorities to implement the category of 4 per cent reservation as per Section 34 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. It had also urged the court to direct the concerned authorities to implement 1 per cent reservation for blind candidates in the 4 per cent reserved seats for persons with disabilities in the recruitment process as per Rule 11 of the Act.

Education Minister said- appointment process will start soon
The recruitment process was banned by the Patna High Court, due to which it has not been completed yet. However, a day earlier, Bihar Education Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that the government would start the process of appointing more than one lakh teachers in primary and secondary schools after getting approval from the Patna High Court. After the intervention of the High Court, the process of recruitment of teachers has been stopped. However, all efforts are being made to resolve the crisis and resume the recruitment process.
